Bridging medicine and technology: Meet the medical experts behind Infermedica’s AI solutions
At Infermedica, we create groundbreaking AI tools to assist patients, healthcare professionals, and healthcare organizations alike. Our products—ranging from self-service symptom checkers to pre-visit intake tools to support for nurse triage advice lines— are designed to improve healthcare outcomes worldwide.
While it’s evident that technical teams like developers, testers, and product managers are integral to building such solutions, the exact role, responsibilities, and day-to-day activities of our medical professionals might not be so apparent. In this article, we’ll take you behind the scenes of Infermedica, introducing you to our medical team and showing how their expertise ensures the clinical excellence of our products.

Our medical personnel are integral to the work we do at Infermedica.
Overview of Infermedica's medical teams
Let’s start with some numbers! Our medical team includes 42 doctors, with a nearly equal split of women and men. Our longest-serving member has been with us for nearly 9 years. Together, our physicians dedicate an average of 3,000 hours each month, driving innovation and helping Infermedica shape the future of healthcare.
Most of our doctors work part-time, balancing their roles at Infermedica with clinical practice. This is possible because of our remote-first approach and the flexibility offered in terms of working hours and collaboration. This unique setup allows us to attract top medical talent who remain actively connected to patients, ensuring their expertise stays sharp and relevant to the challenges facing healthcare today. However, this flexibility comes with its own challenges. It requires excellent team management, task allocation, progress tracking, and asynchronous collaboration.
Crafting medical knowledge: The Medical Content Team
Let's dive into our company structure. The Medical Content Team plays a central role in our AI solutions, focusing on creating and maintaining our extensive Medical Knowledge Base. The team is divided into two sub-teams: one focusing on pediatric content and the other on adult medical content.
The Medical Content Team actively participates in the expansion and continuous updating of our Medical Knowledge Base, which includes symptoms, risk factors, and conditions. They establish the strength of relationships between these elements and determine the optimal triage recommendations for specific clinical scenarios. This knowledge base is crafted entirely by physicians, ensuring transparency and explainability in its rules. It serves as the backbone for our cutting-edge AI Inference Engine. Our content teams also address feedback from clients and end-users as well as integrating suggestions for improvement from other internal teams. Our Medical Consultants ensure the quality and safety of medical content while shaping the clinical direction of our product’s development.

Head of Medical Content (Adults)
The medical content team is composed of physicians at various stages of their clinical careers, including family doctors, otolaryngologists, anesthesiologists, pathologists, psychiatrists, gynecologists, pediatricians, and neonatologists. Some of them have been with us for over 7 years, which greatly contributes to the quality and continuity of our Medical Knowledge Base and ensures long-term consistency in our solutions.
These outstanding Medical Consultants form the pillar of our team. Their diverse clinical expertise ensures that our product aligns with evidence-based medicine. They are responsible for developing and testing the Medical Knowledge Base using a tailored platform.

Head of Medical Content (Adults)
The Medical Content Team's structure includes Medical Consultants, who are directly involved in analyzing and curating medical data, testing the functionality of our knowledge base, and providing critical insights that influence both product design and clinical decision-making processes. By bridging their hands-on clinical experience with advanced healthcare technology, they play a pivotal role in making our solutions practical, reliable, and patient-focused.
The team also includes Medical Leaders, who provide essential support to the Medical Consultants. They actively gather and analyze feedback, address team needs, and facilitate discussions on individual development opportunities. Beyond their team-focused responsibilities, they play a critical role in recruitment, onboarding new team members, and maintaining effective internal communication.
In addition, both the Pediatric and Adult Content Medical Teams have their own dedicated Heads of Medical Content. These individuals oversee their respective teams, make strategic decisions, set priorities, represent the team in collaboration with other departments, and plan product development based on data, user feedback, testing outcomes, client expectations, and company objectives.
Despite the division of responsibilities, we all work as colleagues, prioritizing transparency and open communication. These elements are the foundation of a successful collaboration built on trust.

Testing for excellence: The Clinical Validation Team
The foundation of our AI engine lies in building a reliable medical knowledge base, a task managed by our Medical Content Team. However, the role of doctors in the creation of the platform doesn’t end there. The product needs to be tested to ensure it works as intended.
While software testers support us on the technical side, it’s imperative that the medical content is also verified! Within our medical structures we have the Clinical Validation Team, which consists of 10 medical specialists from various fields. The team, as the name suggests, is responsible for the comprehensive validation of our product. Their rich experience in clinical work helps them consider different perspectives when evaluating our solution's usability for all target groups.
We perform rigorous tests of new concepts and solutions to make sure they work as they should and are safe for patients. Through well-designed processes, we also monitor the performance of our existing products. Think of us as the behind-the-scenes engineers in a car factory—we disassemble the car into its smallest parts, examine each one closely, and then subject them to various durability tests.
Maciej Ostrowski
Medical Leader, Clinical Validation Team
During this type of testing, collaboration is crucial. The Clinical Validation Team collaborates with almost all the teams within our company to a greater or lesser extent. Wherever a medical perspective is needed, the Clinical Validation Team is there.
Our closest collaborations are with the other medical teams, to whom we provide feedback on current medical content and test the new features they create. We also work closely with the Product, Accuracy, and Customer Success teams, evaluating new features of our tool or new products created by Infermedica.

Medical Leader, Clinical Validation Team
As you can see, this work combines medical knowledge, an understanding of patients' and clients’ needs, attention to detail, and a tech-savvy approach. So, is technical knowledge essential to join this team?
I would say that we don't require strict technical knowledge or skills like programming. What is crucial, in my opinion, is openness to new technologies, the ability to adapt and learn quickly, and the ability to work in a team. All of this naturally leads to the acquisition of certain technical competencies and ultimately allows us to navigate the tools we use daily with ease.

Supporting clients with clinical expertise: the Professional Services Team
The next part of our company that relies on medical knowledge and experience is the Customer Success Department, which might be surprising at first glance. Within the structure of the CS team, there is a dedicated medical subteam called Professional Services, composed of three Medical Consultants, a Senior Solutions Architect, and led by the Head of Professional Services.
The Professional Services Team allows Infermedica to offer end-to-end implementation support of Infermedica products for the most complex enterprise-level solutions. Starting from the initial consultation regarding the user journey and choosing the right Infermedica and partner products, to creating the solution, and then deploying the newly created applications. Our team’s goal is to provide outstanding support by being the client’s trusted advisor, and to maintain quality in everything we do by ensuring our clients' applications are as good as our own.
Katarzyna Trybucka
Medical Consultant, Professional Services Team
The scope of work of the Professional Services team is divided into clinical and technical responsibilities. Clinical Professional Services provide clinical advice, lead clinical workshops, and support clients in adapting the solutions to their needs. Medical Consultants provide guidance to help clients leverage Infermedica’s software for the benefit of their organization, their customers as well as their patients. Their work also includes ensuring the solutions meet specific client requirements: assisting with product localization, and analyzing feedback to drive continuous improvements. Medical Consultants also work together with the Infermedica technical teams, supporting clients in product integration.
Combining customer service expertise with medical knowledge allows us to deliver exceptional service and effectively address our clients’ needs.

A unique opportunity for medical professionals
At Infermedica, our medical teams are at the heart of what we do. They ensure our products are not only clinically accurate but also patient-centered and practical for healthcare organizations.
One key example is our triage tool, which is proven to be as safe in triaging people to the right level of care as Schmitt-Thompson protocols, which are the current industry gold-standard triage protocols followed in the US. What’s more, integrating our AI-powered Virtual Triage with live nurse triage has proven to significantly improve care alignment, in one such implementaion influencing 83.9% of patient decisions. This helps optimize healthcare resources by directing patients to telemedicine or self-care when appropriate, therefore reducing unnecessary in-person visits. By freeing up in-person appointments for those who really need them Infermedica Triage improves access to care both during and outside of regular clinic hours.
Whether you’re a doctor interested in transitioning to MedTech or someone seeking a meaningful, flexible career path, Infermedica provides a unique opportunity to bridge medicine and technology.
