Meeting new standards for telemedicine: TeleClinic and Infermedica team up on structured initial assessments
We are delighted to announce our collaboration with TeleClinic, which is aimed at further developing access to video consultations in Germany.
From September 1, 2025, TeleClinic users benefit from structured initial medical assessments, powered by Infermedica’s technology. This collaboration ensures safe and efficient access to telemedicine, while meeting the latest requirements of Annex 31c BMV-Ä.
In this short blog, we’ll cover how Infermedica’s symptom checker integrates into TeleClinic’s healthcare app, the significance of Annex 31c BMV-Ä and how we met these new requirements, and why all of this matters as the digitalization of healthcare progresses.

About TeleClinic
TeleClinic is one of the leading telemedicine providers in Germany, offering patients physician-led video consultations and prescriptions via its pioneering digital health platform. Founded in 2015, TeleClinic has completed over 3.5 million successful treatments via 5,000+ licensed physicians.
The platform ensures rapid access to care while being fully GDPR-compliant and supported by certified technology. Designed for both statutory and privately insured patients, TeleClinic delivers an efficient and trusted healthcare alternative to in-person doctor visits.
Background of Annex31c BMV-Ä
Germany’s healthcare system is evolving. As of September 1, Annex 31c BMV-Ä introduces new quality requirements for statutory video-based consultations. A cornerstone requirement is the implementation of a structured initial medical assessment before scheduling teleconsultations.
The new requirements are designed as a transformative measure to ensure patients receive appropriate care at the right time, whether that means remote consultation or alternative treatment pathways.
By streamlining patient triage, this requirement enhances safety, speeds up access to care, and relieves pressure on medical professionals. For telemedicine providers, it’s an opportunity to innovate and elevate the digital patient journey.

How Infermedica integrates with TeleClinic
In order to meet this requirement and improve access, safety, and efficiency, TeleClinic integrated Infermedica’s symptom checker into its patient app. The symptom checker is a medically validated AI-powered solution that embeds seamlessly into existing healthcare ecosystems to provide clinically validated care navigation to those in need.

Here’s how it works in practice.
A user arrives at the TeleClinic app wanting to book an appointment.
Before being allowed to book the appointment, they are required to complete an online symptom assessment.
The user enters an AI-powered interview that assesses their current symptoms and risk factors. The interview follows the logical flow of a doctor-patient conversation, with each next question depending on the answers to previous questions.
The symptom checker evaluates which cases are appropriate for teleconsultation (transferring these users to a booking system) and which should be referred to a more suitable care pathway.
Essentially, the collaboration between TeleClinc and Infermedica allows users to complete an initial symptom assessment at home and receive care navigation to the right care, at the right time.
Key benefits include:
Quick access to proper care: Users are directed swiftly to the right pathway, increasing patient satisfaction and potentially improving healthcare outcomes via speedier intervention.
Enhanced safety: Structured assessments minimize the risk of inappropriate care routing, meaning patients get the care they need, when they need it.
Efficiency for providers and patients: Patients arriving at telemedicine appointments have needs appropriate for this type of consultation, driving efficiency for both clinicians and patients.
Why this partnership matters
By combining TeleClinic’s reach as a leading telemedicine provider with Infermedica’s expertise in AI-powered medical assessments, we are creating a seamless digital pathway that guides patients safely and effectively through their healthcare journey.
Patients benefit from a guided, reassuring journey from symptom to the correct level of care, and the wider healthcare organization benefits from smarter, more efficient use of resources.
Looking ahead
Together, we are committed to continuously improving the quality of digital consultations, supporting physicians with better-prepared patients, and ensuring healthcare resources are used where they are needed most. This collaboration is more than a response to regulation—it’s a step toward a future where technology and medicine work hand in hand to deliver trusted, patient-focused care.
