The challenge: inaccuracy of medical information online

The Internet has become an increasingly popular source of medical information for people around the world. However, the problem of inaccurate medical information online is a growing concern. Patients may misdiagnose themselves based on misleading or incorrect information they find online. This can lead to inappropriate treatment or delayed diagnosis, which can have serious consequences and increase medical costs. Patients may also encounter conflicting information about a particular condition or treatment, leading to uncertainty about the best course of action. Nextcare sought a solution that could provide patients with instant, reliable healthcare recommendations to address:

  • Inaccurate online medical information
  • Potential for inappropriate treatment
  • Self-misdiagnosis risks

Solution & implementation: building a flexible and engaging user experience

Nextcare collaborated with Infermedica to implement a new app feature. The team configured Infermedica’s symptom checking module to meet Nextcare’s needs in Arabic, English, and French. This prominently displayed feature allows patients direct access from the app’s home screen.

After completing the dynamic survey, users receive a list of probable conditions and recommendations, including self-care (15% of cases),a doctor consultation, or an ER visit if necessary. This leads to early detection of emergencies in more than 20% of cases.

Connection to health ecosystem services

The symptom checker tool integrates with different e-health services like video consultations and appointment booking. Users can make a well-informed decision about whether to have a video consultation, which can include medication delivery if needed, or book an appointment within Nextcare’s broad network of facilities and specialties.

What patients are saying

Very accurate. I have spoken with doctors already, and they ran some tests like ECG and X-ray, but all of them are normal. They mentioned that I’m clinically okay and might have an anxiety disorder. This feature is awesome!!

My top answer is what I was diagnosed with after my X-ray. It was a sprained shoulder muscle.
