Job description

Our explosive growth has opened up a unique job opportunity for a VP of Artificial Intelligence. This role's uniqueness is all about the combination of ownership and leadership in all aspects of Infermedica’s R&D and clinical AI technology. 

In this executive role, you will be responsible for further defining and crystallizing Infermedica’s value proposition and expanding technological capabilities in areas such as diagnostic reasoning, knowledge elicitation and modeling, NLP, and big data. You will be instrumental in initiating and expediting R&D initiatives that will shape Infermedica’s AI product strategy. You will establish the processes and infrastructure to effectively track and enable technological growth by everyday collaboration with physicians and other domain experts to translate the latest research into commercial products.

In addition to creating a scalable, repeatable R&D process, you will be a mission-driven hands-on leader, responsible for bringing a creative and dynamic approach to building a culture of innovation at Infermedica.


  • Design and lead R&D strategy, with broad accountability, both internally and externally with investors, business partners, and the scientific and medical communities.
  • Ensure and plan the organizational growth of the company’s R&D departments and resources.
  • Facilitate the execution of the R&D strategy across all data science teams including Engine, NLP, MetaBase, and Business Intelligence.
  • Create a roadmap for the implementation of medical reasoning and data analytics strategies, including the design of feedback loops, infrastructure, and the development of data models.
  • Participate in end-user product design activities and align them with the R&D roadmap.
  • Keep track of the latest scientific research and advancements in the field of AI-driven medical diagnosis.
  • Represent Infermedica at external meetings/conferences/forums, clients, investors, and other stakeholders serving as the scientific face of the business.
  • Build and foster working relationships with the scientific and medical communities.
  • Act as a key member of the executive leadership team working with all functions on overall corporate strategy, tactical implementation of the strategy, and adding value across the enterprise.
  • Serve as a strategic thinker who possesses strong business judgment and the ability to identify and evaluate risk and opportunity at the commercial, development, and regulatory levels.
  • Requirements

  • Strong leadership expertise with an entrepreneurial and highly mission-driven mindset (you are going to build and lead a world-class R&D team that will help us improve healthcare globally).
  • 6+ years of professional experience in AI/ML services or products.
  • Proven track record of proactive planning, scoping, implementing, and validating R&D projects (preferably in healthcare).
  • Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
  • You'll be leading a diverse team of technical subject matter experts solving complex problems, therefore we expect you to demonstrate sound technical expertise in one or more of these areas:
  • 1. Hands-on experience in AI, deep learning, machine learning, or data science.
  • 2. Ability to research, learn and apply new concepts and technologies quickly.
  • 3. Programming experience in a language suitable for scientific computing, like Python/NumPy, R, C++, Java, Julia, Prolog, etc.
  • Beneficial skills

  • Ph.D. or equivalent relevant experience in one of the following fields: computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, or a related technical or quantitative field.
  • Completed at least 1 postdoctoral fellowship.
  • Prior working experience with Bayesian network algorithms.
  • Familiarity with a modern engineering toolset (Git, GitHub, Linux, cloud computing, Jupyter notebooks, etc.).
  • Strong publication track record.
