Job description

We are looking for a Plain English Language Expert with a background in medical writing/editing and translation. We develop state-of-the-art technology that supports patients and physicians in making the best clinical decisions. Our solutions are driven by translations, which are crucial for our products to work properly. Users rely on these translations when they describe symptoms and when they receive potential diagnoses.  At the moment we are facing a need of translating our medical content into Plain English which could be easily read and understood by diverse populations without sacrificing nuance, style, or necessary clinical details.

  • A part-time position where you will be translating medical content into Plain English (to date, our database consists of 100,000 words).
  • You’ll help us draft plain language guidelines for UI designers.
  • In addition, you’ll help us improve language consistency for User Interfaces and Medical Content.
  • Last, but not least, contribute and maintain the tone and voice of Infermedica products.
  • Requirements

  • A native speaker of English (US English preferred).
  • Experience in translating content into the Plain Language (medical writing/translating preferred).
  • If you have a writing portfolio or samples of your translation, we’d be happy to take a look.
  • Familiarity with resources/guidelines of how plain language could be used in public, government, and medical communication (Plain language guidelines, medical information in plain English)
  • It might be helpful if you possess a degree in English language/literature, Journalism, Business Communications/Public Communications, Translation, or Public Policy (even though it’s not critical for this position).
  • Why is working at Infermedica awesome?

  • We're building an open and supportive startup culture where you can do your best work and improve your competence. Values we embody as a company are: transparency, quality, and support.
  • We are remote-first - work from anywhere.
  • You can start your work at a convenient time aligned with your work-life balance needs.
  • You choose the form of employment according to your preferences - we are flexible.
  • Interview steps

  • A short call with selected candidates. It would take about 30-40 minutes.
  • A translation assignment as homework. You would have 2 working days to do the task in the most comfortable time.
  • Next, a team interview is planned. A meeting with the Translation Manager to discuss your assignment and better understand your experience, expectations, and motivation. This would be done remotely and could take about 1,5 hours in total.
  • Next, a final interview is planned. A meeting with the Implementation Specialist to talk over the client-centric case studies. This would be done remotely and could take about 30 minutes.
  • If successful, you will be given a job offer proposal.
  • We look forward to hearing from you
